Summer with the Southerns

For the past two summers our family has been spending every weekend at the beach. We alternate between my parents house and John's parents house. Let me tell you I feel so blessed to be so close to the beach! It is really nice to have parents and in-laws that welcome us with open arms every weekend too. Although I think they do it mostly so that they can see their grand kids.

Johnny absolutely loves the beach! He spends most of his time in the water, and occasionally with sit in the massive whole that his daddy has dug for him. He's not really into building sand castles or just playing in the sand, but I'm sure he will get there. He's definately not afraid to throw it or sit right down and get covered in it.

We are slowly making Sadie Grace a beach babe. She's actually really easy as long as she's got her milk in a bottle, her cuddly burp cloth, her mommy's shoulder, and a place to lie down. Thanks to my dad, he bought a beach tent for her so she doesn't get to much sun. She is actually starting to get a little tan!

Other than the beach every weekend we also attend Kinston Indian baseball games on a regular basis with John's parents. Johnny being a huge baseball fan, loves them, and Sadie, I think enjoys them too. We don't pay to much to the game, but its a fun thing to do to get the kids out of the house and worn out. When we get there we start off with peanuts and beer, water for Johnny. Then its to the tribe dogs for John and Johnny, and a hamburger for me. Well that's not enough for Johnny, he normally eats about 2 hot dogs or one hot dog and half of my hamburger! He can put some food away!

This past weekend was July 4th and we spent it with John's parents at the beach and in New Bern. We were all so worn out from the beach we missed fireworks but I did manage to get the kids to show some patriotism!!

Our Southern Family Beach week is coming up the last week of July. We are so excited! I will update you on all the fun we had after that week!

First Blog Ever

So today is my first time doing this blogging thing! I feel like I have finally entered the 21st century!

Let me begin by introducing myself. My name is Meredith Southern, and I live in Greenville, NC with my family. I am a graduate of East Carolina University, with a bachelors and masters in Elementary Education. Go Pirates! I am a fifth grade teacher and a mommy of an adorable 2 and a half year old boy, Johnny, and a beautiful 3 month old girl, Sadie Grace. My husband, John, is also a graduate of ECU, with a bachelors and masters in Business Administartion. He works at East Carolina Bank. We love attending ECU baseball, football, and basketball games. During the summer we spend every weekend at the beach, either in Nags Head with my parents, or Atlantic beach with John's parents.

This is my third day of my summer vacation! I am loving every minute of it, being that I get to spend it with Sadie Grace. She has grown so much and so fast in the last 3 months. She surprised me Monday by rolling over from her belly to her back for the first time! I was so excited to share her new "trick" with Johnny. However, she got stage fright and wouldn't perform, until all of a sudden she rolled from her back to her belly! Johnny was very excited! He is such a good big brother, always wanting to love and hug on her. He even likes to feed her! We are looking forward to her sitting up and eating solid foods. There are so many joys to motherhood!

Johnny spends his days at Ms. Jo's house, our day care. I would love to have him at home with me, but being a 2 and a half year old boy, he needs a lot of activity. Plus we have to pay for him all summer in order not to lose his spot. I think he's going through a jealously stage right now, or just the terrible twos, because listening to mommy is the last thing he wants to do! He is all about his daddy right now, which is good because I can concentrate on caring for little Sadie Bird, but bad because I miss our cuddle times together!

Well I think we are up-to-date on everything thats going on in the Southern Family right now! I am going to try and post every day if not every week. The summer will be easy to stay current, but once school starts, it will be harder to post! I will try my best!
